In the preoperative examination, accurate pathological anatomical diagnosis is essential for the correct treatment for both the surgeon and the pathological oncologist. It is done through biopsy, percutaneous or surgical. <\/span><\/p>\n

The basic principles<\/span> of resection<\/b> of the primary tumour are correct assessment of surgical risk, correct preoperative staging and complete resection of the tumour with adequate margins of healthy tissue which maximises the chance of cure. Tumour exceptionality is a very important concept in surgical oncology. The resection of metastatic foci is gaining ground and in certain cancers, under certain conditions, can offer a cure with long-term survival. <\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span> Regional chemotherapies<\/b><\/a> are also targeted at patients with non-resectable tumours, are useful for local control of the disease and can provide substantial relief from its symptoms. Isolated regional chemotherapy methods allow the administration of chemotherapeutic drugs in doses several times higher than those that can be administered systemically, resulting in high response rates and local disease control.<\/span><\/p>\n

So-called<\/span> palliative surgeries<\/b> are intended to relieve the patient from the symptoms of cancer or to treat urgent complications of systemic therapy, such as hollow organ perforation or bleeding.. Basic principles of palliative interventions are the selection of the least invasive method associated with the fastest recovery and shortest length of hospital stay, relief of a specific symptom and minimal negative interference with postoperative quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion, surgical oncology, having a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic methods, is an integral part of the <\/span>multidimensional treatment of cancer.<\/span>. The creative collaboration of the surgical oncologist with the pathological oncologist, the radiologist, the pathological anatomist and the multitude of other specialties involved in the modern treatment of the cancer patient has been scientifically proven to improve the health care provided and optimise the therapeutic outcome. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text]
